HYDROSEED

The First Month

The first 14 days of watering are critical! Make sure to water the hydroseed 2 to 4 times per day for the first 30 days to ensure proper germination of the new lawn. The ground where the seed was planted should be wet all day long (make sure that there is no standing water for more than an hour at a time).

Following the First Month

To promote deep root growth, you will need to water your hydroseed less frequently. After the first month, water the hydroseed 2 to 3 times a week.

When to Mow

Do not mow the grass until it is between 3” to 4” high.It typically takes 3 to 4 weeks for this to happen. Make sure your mower is set to remove only the top 1/3 of the grass.

When to Fertilize

Fertilizing will be at the client’s discretion after 30 days but not before 30 days. Fertilize the hydroseed when it is relatively dry. Promptly water the seed after the fertilizer is applied. When choosing a fertilizer, look for one that is made for new grass, such as starter fertilizers with slow-release formulas. Once the lawn is established, you can fertilize once every season (except for winter) or three times a year.

Controlling Weeds

For 3 to 4 months following seeding, DO NOT use weed killer on the new hydroseeded lawn! This is very important because the weed killer will kill your new seed. Once the grass is established, you can use weed control products but look for ones that are designed for new grass.
