Do you need help taking care of your freshly sodded lawn? Follow the instructions below for a thick and luscious yard!
Sod is an effective way to establish your yard as one of the nicest on the block. Sod is composed of billions of tiny bluegrass plants that over time, become rooted in the ground and create a strong and durable lawn. For the first two years after you have sod installed, the tiny bluegrass plants will not be rooted deeply into your existing lawn. Sod needs more attention and additional water during hot and dry weather conditions to stay alive. If you do not take care of your lawn properly, your lawn will dry up and die! Consistency is key when watering your new lawn. The more consistent you are with your watering routine, the faster your sod will grow and the better your lawn will look. Be sure to follow the instructions below to get the best results!
When is the best time to water?
The best time to water your lawn is in the early morning or the late evening! If you water your lawn at midday, the water will evaporate faster due to high temperaturesc. This is also why watering your lawn in the early morning or late evening is the most cost-effective method.
DAY 1
Water the lawn with sprinklers for 6 – 7 hours over each area of freshly sodded grass (3-3.5 hours in the morning, 3-3.5 hours at night). Be sure to hand water areas that the sprinkler can’t reach to guarantee your entire lawn is getting the water it needs to grow.
DAY 2 – 7
Each day, you will need to run your sprinklers for at LEAST 3 hours over each area. Do not forget to hand water any areas that the sprinkler can’t reach.
WEEK 2
Run the sprinklers for 2 – 3 hours each day (1.5 hours in the morning, 1.5 hours at night). Around day 14, you can mow your lawn with the blade set at 3” high.
WEEK 3
Run your sprinklers every other day to ensure an adequate amount of water is reaching the sod.
WEEK 4+
Completely soak your lawn 2 to 3 times a week from spring to fall.
By following these instructions, you can maximize the health and vitality of your new lawn and ensure your investment pays off. Following these guidelines will help establish strong roots and promote lush growth, ultimately enhancing the appearance and durability of your lawn.
